School is out, summer is here, and inspiration is blooming... and I am upset. Appalled at humanity, really!
Oscar Pistorius is battling not with his disability but with humanity's shortsightedness. If you haven't been following my blog, this is the double amputee who's a serious athlete, track, rugby, tennis, you name it, and who is fighting for his right to compete with abled body athletes and get a chance to qualify for the Olympics. Because of his prostheses, people say he has an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE and should not be allowed to participate in the competition. Should he be in the media's eye for having a crane lift his sorry self pitying useless fat a.. out of the house for eating himself into a whale, people would have sympathy for him... But NOOOOOOOOOO!
He inspires, perseveres, and embraces his shortcoming, and is taking blows from all of the able bodied people, whom I'm sure, would not trade their legs for a pair of scoops as he has. Are we really this narrow minded? Should we burn him for witchcraft, see if he floats on water?
Arguments are well rooted, for the most part, but we are blinded by the immediate picture in front of us and not seeing the big big picture of his entire life's struggles and the road that he traveled to get here that will light the way for so many in so many different ways!
I tell you this much (and those who know me know that I am somewhat competitive:), if I was a world class athlete and one that runs the 400m, I would INVITE him to my race even if that meant I might take second place in the only Olympics I could ever run! Am I the only one here??? Are technicalities so important that we have to stop being human? I don't mean this patronizingly, I have at most respect for the guy and anyone like him... I just don't think a medal is everything, there are more important things than that, and THAT is what I would like to be a part of.
GO OSCAR!
Or perhaps we should make running more like golf and give runners handicaps so they can run, say, 398m, or 390m instead of the 400 if they are shorter, whiter or darker, have more hair, more jewelry (Americans), or bigger or smaller feet, legs and breasts, or proportion it by muscle mass and height and weight and have exact formulas to calculate energy expenditure per pound, along with what they had for breakfast and how long their legs are... am I the only one here?
Where's the spirit?
I have so much more to write about so check back with me my friends!
comments are welcome too..
here's a link to this unfairly blessed guy's interview.

away for long
Coming back to my blog I realize that my last entry was a month ago... WOW! Busy times go fast, it's unbelievable!
But now, having squeezed out the last of the school semester and the closing of the season, I can breath a little easier and take some time to crunch my brain. Projects are non-stop floating up there and obligations are popping up here and there, so time is continuously consumed and devoured. I am shocked that a month has passed while I was "thinking" about what I'm going to write next. Wow again! I now have reminders in my calendar to call my brothers in Hungary so they don't think I disappeared somewhere. I have applied for volunteer work and wonder how the heck I'm going to care for my aging puppy if all my evenings are spent away from home. Recertification is knocking on my door too, which will consume my weekends (again). I would like to have A weekend. A free weekend. Take the kayak out on the river or just chill on the beach.
Actually, I like being busy and having to actively manage my time and recreation schedule. It's all on a schedule... isn't that funny? Oh well, at least I am not bored... Have a great weekend everybody!
