My dog Shaz has developed a great talent for pouting and expressing her feelings in general. I believe that dogs exhibit as much emotions as they are receiving, in other words, my pooch, who is spoiled with attention has the capacity to talk to me without words in a very expressive way.
She would lie down facing away from me, butt turned to me, but taking a glance behind her now and then. She also has a "pouty" bed that she uses when she wants to "hide away" from me, but also in a way that she is able to take glances at me through her half shot eyelids...
She sits with me, in my lap or next to me ALL OF THE TIME. She is never on the ground when I am home, except of course on her walks. So... when she comes up to me as I had just sat down, and prances away backwards as I reach for her to pick her up - well, that's an expression of "I want something from you, I am not going to sit just yet!" There are many more, as she is also capable of smiling and jumping for joy. I like to think that I have learned her language quite well and am able to interpret her body language and cater to her needs. So, basically, I am the trained one...but I don't mind at all.
When I see signs in parks saying animals are not allowed, or no dogs, I wonder who the hell we think we are when we restrict a natural life form from its habitat. The sad thing is, that I realize the actual message saying "no irresponsible animal owners are allowed", it still screws it up for the rest of us. I mean, what do they do with the animals that are there and are without people who can read the signs to them? Do they get chased or fined? Silly s*&%^!
Now... I have to find Shasta who has decided to get up from her pout position and leave me altogether. She might be peeing in the hallway - just to put an exclamation point on her request...
