I have made a sad discovery in my quest for "marketing" myself as a personal trainer: People -for the most part, I would say 98 percent - are not looking for training, for achieved goals, for improvements, or for value for their money; they are looking for entertainment. Why do I say this? Because that's what sells, and there is not a lot of professional training going on. I mean, they are "doing stuff", but sometimes it's painful to watch. They are mostly happy that some poof poof muscle guy with a shaved head and tight shirt is paying attention to them. Yes, I'm talking about women. I would be interested to see what percentage of trainees are male, because what can a woman (or anyone) possibly teach a guy who's been swinging his bicep curls away for years. And women want to feel better about themselves. "Yes, I have invested in myself, I am working out, and this manly man is smiling at me." Do you look different in a year's time and after thousands of dollars spent?
So how do I top that? Do I need to?
I saw an ex-bootcamper in the gym doing lateral plyometrics (jumping side to side on a Bosu), as her "personal" trainer watched over. I asked her why she quit coming to workouts. She said, because her knee can't take it. Go back to the previous sentence. What was she doing? Jumping side to side. Okaaaaaaaaaaaay. Here's the icing. She is an orthopedic surgeon.
Your honor, I rest my case.
I do not want to be a personal trainer anymore...I am not a clown or a babe-for-hire. If you want to make yourself feel better get a new haircut. I mean, $60-$100 an hour for fake compliments?
I will close this post. It makes me irritated...

Violet-- you are a great trainer-- forget about the folks who know no better-- or pity them-- we who train with you know the truth!
